Can You Put a Banana Back Together?

6:12 AM. kitchen. My toddler is throwing a tantrum for the books. What is it about this time?

My oldest loves a good banana every morning. And he likes to eat it on the kitchen floor (you've gotta pick your battles). He likes me peeling half of it, then he holds the banana and eats it. Then I peel the other half for him. A couple months ago, when he was 23 months, he wanted to peel the banana himself, and as a mom who wants to give him as much independence as possible, I tried to explain to him that he needs to pull the peel downwards. He held the peeled half in one hand, and tried to pull with his other hand. And what do you know, the banana broke into two halves!

He, of course, asked me to put it back together. When I told him I can't, that no one can, he had such a legendary meltdown, followed by a screaming symphony that I'm sure woke all our neighbors up. It's 6:12 AM, mind you.

He finally calmed down right after waking up my husband and his 2-month-old baby sister, but I'm trying to focus on the silver linings.
